1952 – FORT DOUGLAS VA HOSPITAL
Originally founded in 1952 as the Fort Douglas VA Hospital Federal Credit Union, the credit union began serving members out of a small room inside the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The primary focus of the credit union was to serve the employees of Fort Douglas and the VA Medical Center.

1980 – VETERAN AFFAIRS MEDICAL
In 1980, the credit union’s name was changed to VAMCU Federal Credit Union. The name VAMCU was derived from Veteran Affairs Medical Credit Union, emphasizing the credit union’s primary membership of the VA Medical Center. The VA Hospital Branch continues to serve members from its location inside the VA Medical Center campus at 500 S Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City, Utah.

2007 – AMERICAN UNITED FAMILY OF CREDIT UNIONS
Accompanying the merger with BluesPlus FCU, the Credit Union’s name was changed to American United Family of Credit Unions.

2011 – AMERICAN UNITED FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
As a result of the merger with Credit Union One, the Credit Union’s name was changed to American United Federal Credit Union. This merger added three branch locations (West Jordan, Main Street, and Sandy).

2016 – GRANTSVILLE BRANCH
Opened the newly built Grantsville Branch located at 458 E Main Street in Grantsville, UT

2020 – WEST VALLEY BRANCH
Opened the newly built West Valley Branch located at 5688 W Parkway Blvd. in WVC, UT

2023 – 8TH SOUTH BRANCH
Opened the completely renovated 8th South Branch located at 208 E 800 S in SLC, UT

2011 - AMERICAN UNITED FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

As a result of the merger with Credit Union One, the Credit Union’s name was changed to American United Federal Credit Union. This merger added three branch locations (West Jordan, Main Street, and Sandy).

2016 - GRANTSVILLE BRANCH

Opened the newly built Grantsville Branch located at 458 E Main Street in Grantsville, UT

2020 - WEST VALLEY BRANCH

Serve the Underserved

2009 – FIRST CALIFORNIAN CREDIT UNION
First Californian (a division of American United Federal Credit Union) was founded to “serve the underserved” members of native communities, their extended families, and reservation employees in or around Riverside County, CA. They pride themselves in their ability to offer a wide selection of financial products and services previously unavailable to many tribal members, along with a selection of tailored products that address specific financial needs of the Native American community.

2009 – MORONGO BRANCH
First Californian opened the Morongo Branch on February 23, 2009 to serve the members of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, their families, and employees. The Morongo reservation is located in Cabazon, CA.

2018 – SOBOBA BRANCH
First Californian opened the Soboba Branch on February 1, 2018 to serve the members of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians, their families, and employees. The Soboba reservation is located in San Jacinto, CA.

2019 – TWENTY-NINE PALMS BRANCH
First Californian opened the Twenty-Nine Palms Branch on June 4, 2019 to serve the members of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, their families, and employees. The Twenty-Nine Palms reservation is located in both Twenty-Nine Palms and Coachella, CA.

2009 - FIRST CALIFORNIAN

The First Californian Division of American United was founded to “serve the underserved” members of tribal organizations in Southern California. American United and First Californian pride ourselves in our ability to offer a wide selection of financial products and services previously unavailable to many of our tribal members, along with a selection of uniquely tailored products ideally targeted to the specific needs of the Native American community and their casino employees.

2009 - MORONGO BRANCH

The Morongo Branch of the First Californian Division was opened on February 23, 2009 and operates to serve the members of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and their employees. The Morongo reservation is located in Riverside County, near Palm Springs and the Morongo tribe owns and operates a the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, California.

2018 - SOBOBA BRANCH

The Soboba Branch of the First Californian Division was opened on February 1, 2018, and operates to serve the members of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians and their employees. The Soboba reservation is located in San Jacinto, California, near Palm Springs and the Soboba tribe owns and operates a casino on their property as well.

2019 - TWENTY-NINE PALMS BRANCH

The Twenty-Nine Palms Branch of the First Californian division was opened on June 4, 2019, and operates to serve the members of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians and their employees. The Twenty-Nine Palms reservation is located in Twenty-Nine Palms and Coachella, California. The tribe owns and operates two casinos on their property.

Mergers (2007-2013)

2007 – BLUESPLUS
On January 1, 2007 the merger with VAMCU was finalized. BluesPlus and VAMCU completed their merger on January 1, 2007 and together formed American United Family of Credit Unions. BluesPlus Federal Credit Union was founded in 1961 to serve the members of Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah.

2011 – BIG VALLEY
On January 1, 2011 the merger with American United was finalized. Big Valley Federal Credit Union was founded in 1978 to serve the members of the AUB organization.

2011 – SALT LAKE CITY VAF
On July 1, 2011 the merger with American United was finalized. Salt Lake City VAF Federal Credit Union was founded in 1935 to serve the employees of the VA Regional Office in Salt Lake City, Utah. 

2011 – CREDIT UNION ONE
Later in 2011, the merger with American United was finalized. Credit Union One Federal Credit Union was founded in 1951 to serve Safeway supermarkets, the Utah Transit Authority, the Union Pacific Railroad, and several other associated groups. This merger added three branch locations (West Jordan, Main Street, and Sandy). The American United administrative offices are located on the second floor of the West Jordan branch.

2013 – NEWSPAPER EMPLOYEES
On October 1, 2013 the merger with American United was finalized. The Newspaper Employees Credit Union (NECU) was founded in 1931 to serve the employees of the Salt Lake Tribune, and later the Newspaper Agency Corporation.

On November 1, 2014 the merger with American United was finalized. Deseret News Employees Credit Union was originally founded in 1946 to serve the members of the Salt Lake Printing Center. After the LDS church purchased the press, the field of membership expanded to include Deseret Management Corporation and the employees of the Deseret News newspaper.

2016 – GRANTSVILLE
On April 1, 2016 the merger with American United was finalized. Grantsville Federal Credit Union (GFCU) was originally founded in 1959 to serve the residents of Grantsville, Rush Valley, Lake Point, Wendover cities. GFCU started out as a farming cooperative, giving loans to purchase farm equipment, using water shares as collateral. The merger maintained that “hometown credit union feel” and opened the doors to membership for those who live and work in Tooele County.

2018 – MIDVALLEY
On February 1, 2018 the merger with American United was finalized. MidValley Federal Credit Union originally opened in 1950 as a MidValley community-based financial institution.

2019 – SUNNYSIDE
In 2019, the merger with American United was finalized. Sunnyside Credit Union was originally opened in 1948 as the U.M.W.A. Local 8020 Credit Union and later changed its name to the Kaiser Steel Credit Union. Field of membership included all employees of Kaiser Steel Corporation, Dragerton Cleaning Company, Miners Trading Post, Carbon Medical, and their family members. In 1977, the Soldier Creek Coal Company and residents of Sunnyside and East Carbon were added to the field of membership. In 1989, the name changed to Sunnyside Credit Union due to the Kaiser Steel Coal Company filing bankruptcy. In 1999, the field of membership was expanded to all Carbon County residents, and in 2003, all residents of Emery County. The Sunnyside branch is still open today.
